This page covers the Sonira website and the Sonira app. It is short because we collect very little, and it says plainly what we do keep.
What the website collects
Anonymous usage analytics: which pages you view and whether you click the download button. This is tied to a random identifier stored in your browser, never to your name. You don't need to sign in to browse this site.
Why we collect it
Only to understand how many people visit and download Sonira, so we can make the product better. Nothing more.
If you ask to be notified
If you type your email into the form asking to be told when the next Mac build ships, we store that address, along with the page you were on and where you arrived from, so we know which page earned it. We use it for that one announcement and nothing else. No newsletter, no sharing it with anyone. Ask us at the address below and we delete it.
What we don't do
No advertising, no selling your data, and no third-party tracking pixels. You can clear the identifier any time by clearing your browser storage.
When you dictate
Your voice goes over an encrypted connection to OpenAI, directly or by way of our server, and that is where it becomes text. Sonira never saves the audio. The text then passes through our server, where a second OpenAI model adds punctuation and takes out the filler words, and comes back to be pasted where your cursor is.
What we keep while Sonira is in beta
The text of each dictation, both as it was heard and as it was cleaned up, linked to your account, with its length and how long each step took. We read it to find and fix recognition and cleanup mistakes, which is how Portuguese in particular gets better. It is stored in the European Union (Ireland). We will look at this again before paid plans arrive. The app also records simple events, such as which version you run and whether a step failed, so we can fix what breaks.
When Sonira reads aloud
The text you select is sent to OpenAI to produce the voice. We do not keep that text or the audio.
Your account
Your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google. Ask us at the address below and we delete your account and every dictation linked to it.
